Creating Your Capsule Jewellery Box - 6 Essential (& Versatile) Items Every Woman Should Own

capsule jewelry box

Have you heard about the ‘capsule wardrobe’? How about a 'capsule jewellery box'? The capsule wardrobe is everywhere lately, and it’s something I’m really getting into. Apart from the appeal of being able to choose an outfit quickly and easily in the morning, I love the concept of having fewer, versatile items that are good quality.

Quality over quantity!

And I like the idea of creating a signature style.

What a great concept to apply to your jewellery box as well!

As we mature I think we want to refine our personal style to reflect who we are and who we want to be. And as we get busier and busier, we want to simplify our lives as well. This is what building a capsule wardrobe, or jewellery box, is all about.

The capsule wardrobe is really just a reinvention of the classic french or minimalist wardrobe, with its’ classic aesthetic, versatile pieces and focus on quality over quantity. If you’re interested in reading more about the ‘capsule wardrobe’ I suggest checking out reddit, there are hundreds of dedicated reddits.

While accessories aren’t usually included in a capsule wardrobe, I naturally began thinking about how this concept could be applied to your jewellery collection. As with clothing, the aim is to build a collection of a few classic, versatile pieces.

While there are no rules about colors or styles, you want to pick pieces that reflect your own style, that will work together, and can be worn with a multitude of outfits.

So, without further ado, here’s my list of the 6 essential items you need in your capsule jewellery box!

1. Classic Studs

The classic stud is probably THE most versatile piece in your jewellery box. The right pair can be warn with absolutely anything - simple enough to wear casually, classy enough to wear to work, and elegant enough to wear out.

Whether you like sparkle or simple, these are an investment that you will definitely get your wear out of.

My pick for studs - stick to a neutral colour to ensure you get the most out of them. Think clear, black, pearl, gold, silver, or for a modern twist how about these metallic pewter crystal studs?

2. Statement Earrings

While studs are versatile, every girl needs a pair of statement earrings to dress up an outfit and make her feel stunning and sophisticated.

And because they’re earrings, you don’t have to worry about matching necklines, so you can be more daring with the style.

These can be as small or big as you like, but I’d suggest at least some sort of drop. Personally I love a medium size, that way I feel comfortable wearing them at work or going out. I also think this is a great time to introduce some colour. Try to steer away from seasonal colours (I'm looking at you flouro!). Classic colours like jewel tones or subtle shades won’t date.

I confess, I do have a few pairs of these that I switch up dependent on the season. Here’s my favourites at the moment;

3. Pendant

Like the classic stud, the pendant is an understated and versatile piece. One of those day-to-night pieces.

Stick to your personal style on this one, if you’re into fine go fine, if you’re into statement then go big.

While not strictly a pendant, this chain necklace is simple and versatile. The black is modern, and it can be worn a few different ways for different looks.

4. Statement Necklace

Where the pendant is usually understated, the statement necklace is anything but.

Guaranteed to dress up any outfit - a statement necklace looks great worn casually with jeans and a tee, or for a special occasion.

For me, the bigger the better, but I stick to a single neutral colour - I like clear crystal with an antique finish base. This means the piece will be suitable for lots of occasions and match lots of my wardrobe.

5. Cocktail Ring

The perfect cocktail ring is timeless - able to transform a simple outfit (LBD anyone?), worn at any age, and is always perfect for a special occasion.

The great thing about jewellery that you wear on your hands is that you get to look at it! And if you have the right piece, every time you look at it you’ll smile.

So make it something YOU love - colour, shape and size wise. Here's some of our most popular styles.

6. Signature Bracelet

Bracelets are traditionally worn in many cultures for protection, which is a great reason to wear your bracelet as a good luck charm. Whether it’s a bangle or a bracelet, fine or chunky, plain or embellished, the classic bracelet is something that you can wear everyday to give you a lift - in both the style and motivation stakes.

My mum has always had a gold bangle. It has changed over the years, some have been heirlooms passed down through women in my family, some have been gifts, but it’s something that I have fond memories of. I like to mix it up a bit more. My classic bracelet of choice for the last few years has been a chunky silver bracelet with a heavy skull charm. I always get compliments on it, even though it’s a bit alternative.

Classic can still be unique and individual. So choose something that means something to you.

As with rings, you’ll be looking at it a lot, so go with what delights you!

I hope you have fun building your capsule jewellery box, and finding pieces that really show off your individual style. Let me know whats in your capsule jewellery box and what pieces you’re still looking for.

Sarah xx
